Why I Built StudioReno

I'll be honest with you: I'm particular.

I didn't fully realise how particular until I started renovating my own home. Suddenly every decision felt enormous. Would that terracotta actually work with the green velvet, or would it fight it? Was the timber too orange next to the stone? Would the rug pull it all together or make the whole room feel busy? I couldn't just pick something and hope. I needed to see it.

So I did what a lot of people do: I brought in a professional. I worked with a brilliant interior architect. And I think it's fair to say I drove him a little bit crazy.

Because I didn't want to see one option. I wanted to see the sofa in this fabric, and also that one, and also the third one I'd found at 11pm. I wanted to swap the pendant, try a different stone, move the artwork, test the whole thing in a warmer white and then a cooler one. Every "what if" needed a picture, and there were a lot of what-ifs.

When I ran out of his patience, I turned to Photoshop. I'd sit up at night clumsily cutting out products and dragging them onto photos of my rooms, trying to get a feel for how it would all come together before I committed real money to any of it. It sort of worked. It was also slow, fiddly, and completely held together with sticky tape.

But somewhere in the middle of all that late-night dragging and dropping, it hit me: this shouldn't be so hard. I wasn't trying to do anything unreasonable. I just wanted to gather the things I loved and see them in my actual space before I spent thousands of dollars I couldn't get back. There had to be a better way, and there wasn't one. So I decided to build it.

What I actually wanted

I didn't want a complicated 3D program you need a diploma to operate. I wanted something that worked the way my brain already worked when I was planning my home:

Collect everything I loved in one place: furniture, lighting, artwork, and the finishes that are so hard to picture, like tiles, stone, and timber. All my favourites, gathered together instead of scattered across 40 browser tabs and a dozen screenshots.

Then quickly mock up my space: drop those real products into a room and see what they actually look like next to each other. The whole point was the combinations. A single piece is easy; it's how everything sits together that makes or breaks a room.

And see it come to life: turn that mock-up into a realistic image of the finished space, so I could stand back and know, before buying a single thing, whether it was right.

That's StudioReno. It's the tool I wished I'd had before I ever picked up a paintbrush or placed an order.

What it gave me

Two things, and they're both the reason it exists.

The first is money. Testing everything first saved me thousands, because the expensive mistakes never happened. The rug that would've clashed, the colour that looked nothing like the swatch, the piece that was beautiful on its own and all wrong in the room: I caught them on a screen instead of in my living room after they'd been paid for and delivered.

The second is harder to put a number on. There's something genuinely joyful about being able to see your future home before it exists: to play, to try the bold thing, to change your mind ten times for free, and to finally arrive at a room you're sure about. It took the fear out of the decisions. And renovating stopped feeling like a series of expensive gambles and started feeling like fun.

Who it's for

StudioReno is for people like me. For the particular ones. For the renovators and the decorators and the "I just want to see it first" people. For anyone who has ever loved a piece online but had no idea if it would work in their space, and didn't want to spend the money to find out the hard way.

You don't need to be a designer. You don't need any experience. You just need a room you want to get right and the good sense to want to see it before you commit.
